Grieķu obligācijas šodien intraday sasniedza jaunus rekordus: 1 gada - 122%; 2 gadu - 69%; 5 gadu - 27% 10 gadu - 23%; 30 gadu - 15%.
Tas jau pamazām sāk atgādināt 1998. gada vasaru Krievijā. |

Man vairāk izskatās pēc tā, ka vācu un franču bankas grib līdz septembra beigām tikt vaļa no grieķu obligācijām, jo citādi pēc Q3 atskaitēm viņām spēcīgi pazeminās reitingus. Jebkurā gadījumā Eiropas banku Q3 atskaites būs neglītas.

I was trying to analyze this Eurozone problem in the weekend. I'll briefly give you my findings and thoughts but just as headlines of analysis.
I believe you all know what is happening on the surface. We read a lot of news about this Eurozone problem on the media. Everyone is blaming each other.
However it is very hard to understand the answers of those questions; what is really happening?, what is the real problem, and how would it be resolved? Media never gives us the real answers. We need to go very deep.
My finding are very simple. I have looked at the problem as a business problem, mixed a bit of politics. It is business as huge money involved in it.
- Greece, Portugal and Ireland have too much debt which could not be paid in time which will require on-going budget austerity. (What did they do with this much money is another issue, but not our problem here.)
- All three countries would eventually have to restructure their debts or would go to default and/or leave Eurozone.
- Initially, the EU tried to get away with 'soft' restructurings, involving a combination of longer maturities and lower interest rates.
- But it is understood now that this wouldn't work as the struggling euro countries would not be able to grow rapidly enough to service their debts by 2013. At that time there will be no viable alternative to 'hard' restructurings -which means default,- comprising debt write-downs of 50 per cent or more.
The real problem is here;
WHO ARE THE CREDITORS OF STRUGGLING COUNTRIES?
It is not IMF or Worldbank, or European Central Bank/ECB (now involved and injecting money) but majority of this debt owned by private investors; they private banks and investment funds.
No one exactly knows who they are. It is a secret. I couldn't find them. There are only rumours about them. The rumoured banks are mostly French banks and some German banks.
WHO IS INVOLVED IN DEBT CONFLICT?
Those private investors are pushing France and German governments to pay the invoice for this debt. They don't want to write down any part of it.
But Germany says (all along in last 1.5 year) that those creditors who benefited a lot from those struggling countries so far, should write-down some of their loan that those countries shouldn't default.
Germany tried everything to keep the Eurozone in order, injected money to the system. However German people now ask to Angela Marker to stop giving tax payers money to struggling countries. Btw, Angela Merker is under alot pressure from her party that they might lose the election if they keep giving money to those struggling countries.
Financial speculators and hedge funds engaged in selling euros have also been accused by both the Spanish and Greek Prime Ministers of worsening the crisis. Angela Merkel has stated that "institutions bailed out with public funds are exploiting the budget crisis in Greece and elsewhere."
The role of Goldman Sachs in Greek bond yield increases is also under scrutiny. It is not yet clear to what extent this bank has been involved in the unfolding of the crisis or if they have made a profit as a result of the sell-off on the Greek government debt market.
ECB'S INVOLVEMENT, TRISCHET'S THREATS TO THE SYSTEM;
ECB president Jean-Claude Trischet supports to inject money to all struggling countries through the European Financial Stability Facility (EFSF). (Europe's Finance Ministers approved a comprehensive rescue package worth Euro 750 Billion (then almost a trillion dollars) aimed at ensuring financial stability.)
As far as I can see Jean-Claude Trischet is representing those private investors as he supports their benefits. So he is at the centre of conflict. (He is going out in October anyway).
Trichet basically asks Germany to support his plans and inject money to the system. He threatened everyone by his very negative statements in recent weeks that European economies would go to a big crisis if those countries were not bailed out.
CONFLICT IS WORSENING BUT ABOUT TO BE RESOLVED!
But the conflict between Germany and the private investors is getting deeper. Last Friday, Jurgen Stark became the second German after Axel A. Weber who resigned from the ECB Governing Council in 2011 becasue of Jean-Claude Trichet's and his loyal team's policies. (Jurgen Stark is coming from Angela Merker's party.)
Private investors and their rep Trischet thought and been sure so far that Germany couldn't not afford the Greek default. So, Germany would have to pay the invoice.
However this time it looks different. Germany has now opening its cards. German gov. has already made its plans for Greek default and promised to pay 50% of the write offs of German banks in case of default.
GERMANY AND PRIVATE INVESTORS WILL HAVE TO AGREE ON A RESOLUTION; BECAUSE THIS IS BUSINESS..!
Now, we will see if those private investors will let Germany to stay back and leave Greece to default. A Greek default means, Portugal can default too. Then maybe others. So it may cause a chain reaction.
How those private investors will take the risk of Greek default we will see this now. I don't think they will get that risk. They will have to agree to write down 50% of those debts. And then those struggling countries will have a better debt to GDP ratio. That will get them a batter situation for paying their debts in the coming years.
DAMAGE!
Stock prices of the financial institutions in Europe are terrible atm. French banks have already lost 2/3 of their value in last 8 weeks. (Societe Generale SA, BNP Paribas SA and Credit Agricole SA).
I mean the damage is already done. We are not at the beginning of this crises, it is nearly ending IMO. |
