New York Stock Exchange Issues Monthly Short Interest Report
NEW YORK Aug. 19, 2004 - The New York Stock Exchange today reported short interest as of the close of business on the settlement date of Aug. 13, 2004 reflecting transactions through Aug. 10, 2004.
Based on information received from members and member organizations, short interest increased to 7,675,491,823 shares on Aug. 13 from 7,539,540,710 shares on July 15.
The short interest on Aug. 13 was equal to 2.2 percent of the total shares outstanding on the Exchange.
The short interest in warrants as of Aug. 13 amounted to 76,099 warrants, compared with 90,826 the previous month.
As of the settlement date, there were 3,583 stocks and 5 warrants available for trading on the Exchange. Of these, 2,921 issues had either a short position of 5,000 shares or a change of shares since the last monthly report. A list of these issues, showing their current short positions and average daily volume between the trade dates, covered by this report, is attached.
A short sale is any sale of a security, which the seller does not own, or any sale, which is completed by the delivery of a borrowed security.
